On Friday, March 15th, Matchroom Boxing presents a night of action from the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA, and live exclusively on DAZN. There are at least seven fights scheduled for the night with the main event featuring a super-featherweight title bout as champion Tevin Farmer defends his belt against Jono Carroll.
Also on the card is a women’s lightweight unification fight as two champions square off to see who the best is and who gets all the belts. Katie Taylor will put up her WBA and IBF titles, while Rose Volante will put up her WBO title. This event features numerous Irish fighters as they celebrate St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The undercard is set to begin at 7 PM ET followed by the main card portion of the event, which will begin at 9 PM ET.
With only a few days until the big Philly event, let’s check out the latest odds from boxing betting sites to identify betting value and to KO our picks.
Gabriel Rosado (24-11-1, 14 KOs) vs Maciej Sulecki (27-1, 11 KOs)
- Gabriel Rosado (+600)
- Maciej Sulecki (-900)
Sulecki comes into this matchup as the betting favorite largely due to his overall body of work and a better career record than Rosado. Both fighters have fought tough competition, but Sulecki has succeeded in the middleweight division where Rosado has failed. With that said, Maciej doesn’t offer any betting value, but Rosado is worth taking a flyer on. He will be fighting in his hometown and he won’t get another chance like this where the winner will most likely earn a WBO world title opportunity in their next fight.
Rosado vs Sulecki Preview

Age | 33 | 29 |
Height | 5’11.5” | 6’1” |

Total Fights | 37 | 28 |
Record | 24-11-1, 1 NC | 27-1 |
Knockouts | 14 | 11 |
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn recently stated that the winner of this fight will be in line for a bigger fight against WBO champ Demetrius Andrade. Additionally, this fight on Friday, will also be for the WBO International Title.
Rosado’s last fight was in November and it ended in a Draw. Rosado has lost 6 of his last 11 fights, going 3-6-1 with 1 no contest. That records spans back to when Rosado lost to GGG in 2013. Despite having a terrible record, Rosado has a chance to earn a WBO title fight this summer against Andrade.
Rosado was a former top contender at junior middleweight, but decided to go up to middleweight. It wasn’t a good move has he’s accumulated a losing record since then. Nevertheless, Rosado is one win away. And, good fortunes might be smiling down on him as this weekend’s fight against Maciej will be in his hometown of Philly:
“I’m excited to start the year back home in Philly. This is the second half of my career and the goal is to win a World title. It’s only right that it starts here in Philly.”
Maciej got back in the win column last November when he TKO’d his opponent. Sulecki had lost nearly 1 year ago when he took on the highly rated champ Daniel Jacobs and lost via Unanimous Decision. Despite the loss, Sulecki could get another big fight this summer and he believes that his loss against Jacobs has made him a better boxer.
Who Gets Andrade Next?
What a story it would be if Rosado can bounce back from a declining career in the middleweight division to earn a big title fight this summer. It’s a story that could happen this weekend in Philly, the home of the ultimate underdog boxing story of Rocky Balboa.
Rosado’s record can be deceiving to some, but he has fought many tough opponents like GGG, Quillin, Charlo, and Love. They were all undefeated fighters when Rosado faced them.
Sulecki has also faced tough competition and fared well against Jacobs. He’s a talented middleweight with the potential to make it a war against Andrade. With that said, I like Sulecki to come out the victor in a tough fight this Friday.
The smart money is on MacieJ to win most likely via UD. However, as I mentioned above, Rosado is worth a flyer as he has everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Rose Volante (14-0, 8 KOs) vs Katie Taylor (12-0, 5 KOs)
- Rose Volante (+1500)
- Katie Taylor (-3000)
It’s quite surprising as to the large difference in odds for these two fighters. And, yet, they are both undefeated world champions. Taylor is certainly the more heralded fighter, but she’s only 4 years younger than Volante, has less fights and less knockouts. I’m certainly not arguing that she shouldn’t be the favorite, but she should not be this big of a betting favorite. Katie offers no betting value, but at -1500 odds, I think Rose Volante is worth a flyer. An undefeated champ, who is Taylor’s toughest opponent to date, is definitely worth a risk at those massive odds.

Volante vs Taylor Preview

Total Fights | 14 | 12 |

Volante won the WBO belt in December 2017, after defeating Carabajal via Majority Decision. The belt was vacant at the time. She has successfully defended it twice since then and has looked strong in those two fights. However, this will be the Brazilian’s first fight in the U.S. and only her second fight outside of Brazil. Although Volante is a big underdog, she’s coming into this bout with absolute confidence and focused. Her only goal is to win and take 3 belts back to Brazil:
“I’m going into the fight to do my best and to win the fight. I am also a world champion. It will be a great fight for championships. The fight will promote an amazing spectacle for those who watch. The fight is decided upon in the ring. Whoever is better prepared will win. I’m very willing to do that. I always look for big challenges and now the time has come and I am preparing to win and return with the three belts.”
Katie Taylor fought four times last year, including a huge fight at Madison Square Garden last December. She defeated longtime rival Eva Wahlstrom via UD and turned her attention toward Volante. Taylor’s ultimate goal is to defeat Volante then go after Delfine Persoon for the WBC lightweight title and try to capture all of the belts.
“Ever since I won my first world title as a pro my goal has been to unify the Lightweight titles so this is obviously a massive step towards that. Volante is unbeaten so I’m expecting a tough fight but that’s exactly the kind of challenge I want. I think the better the opponent and the bigger the challenge the better I will perform. For now my focus is on Volante but of course after that fight I would love to have all the belts as soon as possible. Hopefully the Persoon fight can finally be made for the summer and then there are some other huge fights out there as well for the rest of the year.”
Persoon won over the weekend in Belgium and is now 43-1 in her career. She’s also willing to fight the winner of Volante and Katie Taylor. Promoter Eddie Hearn believes this massive women’s title fight could take place over the summer on the undercard of heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua’s fight against Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden.
Who Remains Undefeated?
This co-main event has more buzz over it than the main event of Farmer vs Carroll. Two undefeated champs looking to unify a division. It doesn’t get much better than that.
For Volante, she’s going to have to bring her “A-game” and have the best performance of her career. Not saying she can’t, but it’s hard to believe that she will. Taylor is just so talented overall that Volante could fall short like every other opponent who’s stood across from Taylor.
For Taylor to win, she needs to bring her lunch pale and go to work for 10 rounds. She clearly has the skills to accomplish this as she dominated Wahlstrom last December for the entire fight. However, Wahlstrom was already defeated before she even stepped into the ring with Taylor. Eva admitted following the fight that she felt she would lose to Taylor. Volante doesn’t feel this way. In fact, she believes she will win.
So, who actually wins? The answer is Katie Taylor. Until the former 2012 Olympic Gold medalist is defeated in her professional career, you have to stay on that “K-train.” With that said, if there’s ever been someone who can defeat her, it’s Volante.
The smart play is Taylor, but Volante is worth a flyer for all of you risk takers out there.
Jono Carroll (16-0-1, 3 KOs) vs Tevin Farmer (28-4-1, 6 KOs)
- Jono Carroll (+650)
- Tevin Farmer (-1000)
Here’s a matchup that might be deceiving to some bettors. Yes, Carroll is undefeated. However, he hasn’t fought the same caliber of opponents as Farmer has. Furthermore, Carroll hasn’t even fought in the United States before. There’s a lot going against Carroll in this title fight and I don’t see Jono being worth a flyer like Rose Volante in the co-main event. With that said, there’s no betting value in Tevin Farmer and I wouldn’t be surprised if his odds went up as we get closer to the event.

Total Fights | 17 | 34 |

Carroll has a reputation for being able to sell a fight with his words. And, he’s certainly helping ticket sales for this upcoming title fight. In fact, Carroll trash talked Farmer a few months ago before his last fight, to set up this possible world title bout. Jono believes all of the pressure is on the champ and that Farmer’s confidence is fake:
“A man who has a lot, has a lot to lose. I’ve nothing to lose and everything to gain so mentally, this is an easy night for me. This is just another day in the office for me. Tevin didn’t know what to do when I put it on him and started stuttering and repeating himself. I don’t think he’s truly confident. I think it’s all just a front.”
Carroll has gone on to say that Farmer is “a tiny little child” and that he’s not afraid of the champ. Jono has fired verbal shots at Farmer from all angles. But, can he successfully land those shots inside the ring?
Tevin Farmer started off his career going 7-4-1. Since his last loss in October 2012, he’s gone undefeated in 22 straight fights. However, he did have a NC over that span. Nevertheless, Farmer has become one of the best fighters in the 130 weight class. In fact, he’s hoping to use this fight as a stepping stone to take on other champs in the division. Farmer has been vocal about the other champs not fighting each other. He’s also been calling out the other champs especially Gervonta Davis. As of now, there are no plans for any title vs title fights in the near future. And, that’s no fault of Farmer as he keeps challenging the other title holders.
As for his opponent, Farmer believes he will leave Carroll a bloody mess:
“Jono was talking s—t, saying he can beat me and is going to take my title. That’s why I wanted to face him, so I can kick his a—. I have no idea how I’m going to win. I just know he’s going to be bloody. I’ll tell you that for a fact. No one is going to recognize him when I’m done with him. I promise you that.”
Bet the Farm on Tevin
I think it’s pretty clear that there’s a difference in level of talent between these two fighters. I like Carroll’s toughness and trash talking, but he’s not as skilled of a boxer as Farmer. Tevin is a better boxer and has fought tougher competition. He’s going to be fighting in front of his hometown fans as Carroll fights for the first time in the United States.
I don’t think there’s any confusion over who will win this fight. Farmer will retain the title this weekend. The only question is whether or not Farmer stops Carroll inside the allotted distance. With that said, this fight will most likely end with Farmer winning via Unanimous Decision. Let’s just hope that Farmer can secure a fight with another divisional champ after his success this weekend.
Other Fights on the Card
In addition to the bouts discussed above, the following undercard fights will take place this weekend:
Avery Sparrow (9-1, 3 KOs) vs Henry Lundy (29-7-1, 14 KOs)
- Avery Sparrow (-105)
- Henry Lundy (-115)
Sparrow vs Lundy is an “all-Philly” fight with Sparrow hailing from north Philly and Lundy hailing from south Philly. This 10 round super featherweight bout will definitely get the Philly crowd fired up. And, it should be a very competitive fight. As you can see, boxing betting sites list this as the closest fight on the entire boxing card.
Sparrow comes in going unbeaten in his last 6 fights. However, his last bout took place 1 year ago and it ended in a NC. At 25 years old, Avery is the younger of the two fighters and far less experienced than his opponent. However, Sparrow has been tabbed as a rising prospect and he could really give his career a boost with a win this weekend.
For Lundy, he needs a win to get back on track for one more shot at a world title. The former title contender lost in his last fight and has dropped 4 of his last 8 fights. With that said, he has lost against some of the sport’s best fighters like Terence Crawford. Nevertheless, Lundy needs this win to turn things around.
At 35 years old, Lundy’s window is closing. Unfortunately, for Lundy fans, I think Sparrow closes it this weekend. Look for Avery to get the biggest win of his career and move up in the divisional rankings.
Silverio Ortiz (37-23, 18 KOs) vs Daniyar Yeleussinov (5-0, 3 KOs)
- Silverio Ortiz (+2000)
- Daniyar Yeleussinov (-5000)
Tevin Farmer Vs Jono Carroll Odds 2019
Let’s be honest here, this fight is nothing more than a paid sparring session for Daniyar. Silverio Ortiz is a professional lump who has lost 9 of his last 12 fights. He’s basically stepping into the ring for Daniyar Yeleussinov to have a warm body to hit instead of a heavy bag.
I’m actually surprised these odds aren’t greater. I’m sure other boxing betting sites could have Daniyar listed as a bigger favorite because this matchup isn’t even close. It’s almost as bad as an Olympic sprinter racing an elderly jogger in a 400 meter race. Speaking of Olympics, Daniyar is a former gold medalist and has numerous amateur accolades to speak of. However, there’s really no need to highlight those credentials for this fight.
In his 6th professional bout, I expect Daniyar Yeleussinov to crush Ortiz and finish him off before going the distance.
Victor Fonseca (17-9-1, 14 KOs) vs D’Mitrius Ballard (19-0, 12 KOs)
- Victor Fonseca (+660)
- D’Mitrius Ballard (-1200)
Ballard is undefeated coming into this matchup and he will certainly remain unbeaten after this bout. The soon-to-be 26 year old was a highly touted amateur and has continued his success into the professional ranks. However, he really needs to start fighting tougher competition because this Fonseca fight shouldn’t be much of a contest.
Fonseca did just have an 8 fight win streak snapped last December in his loss to Akkawy. However, he had to go to Mexico to get most of those wins. Prior to that win streak, Fonseca lost 5 straight contests with most coming in the United States.
Fonseca has been stopped 4 times in his 9 losses and I believe this weekend will be number 5. Ballard hasn’t really been tested yet, and Fonseca won’t either. The Maryland native should have some fans in Philly this Friday and I expect him to get the TKO win. There’s no betting value in either fighter and Fonseca isn’t worthy of a flyer.
Tevin Farmer Vs Jono Carroll
Adrian Young (26-5-2, 20 KOs) vs Luke Campbell (19-2, 15 KOs)
- Adrian Young (+2000)
- Luke Campbell (-5000)
Just like with the Daniyar Yeleussinov fight, this bout between Campbell and Young is nothing more than a glorified sparring session. Campbell is taking this fight to keep active despite being the mandatory challenger for the WBC title currently being held by Mikey Garcia. However, Garcia went up in weight to fight Spence in a historic fight on PPV this weekend. So, instead of sitting around and doing nothing, Campbell got a warm body to beat up as he waits for his WBC title fight.
Most likely, Garcia will be stripped of his belt due to not wanting to come back down and defend it. That should set up Campbell to fight another opponent for this vacant belt.
“I don’t think that Mikey can go to 147lbs, put muscle on and be big at Welterweight, and then come back down to Lightweight – it’s not doable on the body. Maybe they will make him champion in recess and if that’s the case the title will be open for me to fight for.”
Campbell is a former Olympic gold medalist and a far more talented fighter than Adrian Young. This fight isn’t even up for debate. Look for Luke to make quick work of Young and then make plans to watch the Spence vs Garcia fight the next night.
Final Thoughts on DAZN: Farmer vs Carroll
For those bettors and boxing fans in the UK, this event will air live on Sky Sports. For the rest of the world, this event will stream on DAZN. In my opinion, the biggest fight on the card is the co-main event with Taylor and Volante battling it out for three world titles. It’s going to be a war and better than any other bout on the night.
Tevin Farmer Vs Jono Carroll Odds Today
The main event fight should be entertaining for the first few rounds, but then I expect Farmer to take control and cruise to a UD win. I wouldn’t be surprise if he found a way to stop Carroll before going to the scorecards.
Tevin Farmer Vs Jono Carroll Odds Football
The Rosado vs Sulecki fight also has some intrigue. The winner gets a world title fight this summer, while the loser is left to toil in obscurity. But, what makes this fight even more captivating is Rosado’s story. He’s a former top contender that moved up in weight and has taken a beating. With that said, he can secure a title fight this summer with a win. It’s almost as if Rosado is writing his own Rocky script.
In the end, this card does have some entertainment value and some betting value. There’s a few underdogs worth a flyer and some close fights that could hit big for the boxing bettors out there.
